In 1970, funded by memorial gifts from Units, a loan from National Auxiliary funds, and an inheritance to the Auxiliary from a former member, the Auxiliary Emergency Fund was established.  This fund, which provides emergency assistance to a member for a limited period of time, provided she has been a member of the Auxiliary for the immediate past five consecutive years and has her current year's dues paid, is supported by memorial contributions from Auxiliary Units and members.  The maximum amount of any AEF grant is $2,400 which may be disbursed in one, two, or three monthly payments.

Displaced Homemakers  Another kind of emergency has been recognized recently by the Auxiliary - the emergency a woman faces when she is suddenly single by reason of desertion, divorce, or widowhood and with no skills to support herself or her family.  The number of victimized women considered displaced homemakers is growing at an alarming rate.
    The assistance is strictly for the member who needs a brush up on job related skills.  It is meant to give immediate rather than long-term support.  Eligibility for this assistance is the same as for the Auxiliary Emergency Fund with the added requirement that all other means of support are exhausted.
    These are National funds.  Members interested in applying for this assistance must do so through their Units.  Units may request the application from the Department Office .
